The short version

This site contains advertising. Booking links on this site can be turned into paid links automatically by our partner Travelpayouts: if you book through one, we earn a commission from the provider, at no extra cost to you. It never affects what we recommend.

How this site is funded

Some of the hotel, tour, transfer and flight links on this site go through Travelpayouts, an affiliate network that connects us to booking sites. Travelpayouts adds its commission tracking to those links automatically rather than us choosing them one by one. If you book after following one, the booking site pays us a commission. You pay the same price you would have paid going direct, and nothing here is behind a paywall or conditional on using those links.

Travelpayouts adds its tracking to booking links automatically, after the page has loaded, which means we cannot always tell at the time of writing which links will end up monetised. That is why the notice at the top of every article is unconditional rather than link-by-link: it is the only honest way to describe links whose commercial status is decided after the page loads.

The same script can also add things of its own to a guide: booking boxes, and small pop-up booking suggestions on some of the places a guide mentions. They are advertising too, and they are paid the same way. When you follow a link, it can also open a booking offer in the tab you were reading, with the guide reopened in a new tab. We do not place any of these by hand; the network decides where they appear.

Nothing on this site is a paid placement. No business has bought its way into a guide and none can; no partner sees an article before it is published. Commission follows a recommendation, it does not create one.

What this means for your data

The Travelpayouts script loads on every page of this site and reports each page visit back to Travelpayouts. The cookie settings on this site do control that script: it is in the Advertising category and does not load until you allow it. Like any service your browser connects to, it receives your IP address and browser details when it loads. If you follow one of those links, Travelpayouts and the booking site set a cookie so that a booking made afterwards can be credited to this site; it records the booking, not what you read here. Once you are on the booking site you are under its own privacy policy, and ours stops applying.

There is more detail in the privacy policy and the cookie policy. The commercial side is covered in the terms of use.

You can refuse all of this. Travelpayouts sits in the Advertising group in the cookie settings, and until that group is allowed the script does not load at all — no rewriting, no identifier, nothing stored. In the EU, the UK and the other countries listed in the privacy policy it stays off until you say yes; in the United States it stays off until you answer the bar. If you allow it and change your mind, the scripts stop running, and the analytics cookies this site can reach are cleared. The one cookie Travelpayouts keeps on this site, am_user_session, is no longer renewed once its script stops and lapses within half an hour. Its other item of storage, a note of the page’s colours (YeaMoAvnmSamSLml), and anything Travelpayouts or a booking site set on their own domains are cleared in your browser rather than from this page. The links still work, the price is unchanged, and we still earn nothing extra from you either way.
